Maya Makhoul

Counselling Therapist Intern

Hi everyone! My name is Maya, and I am currently completing my practicum placement at Couch of Hope as part of my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) at Yorkville University. I am excited for this opportunity and grateful to begin this next step in my counselling journey.

I grew up in Canada, but I am Lebanese, and my cultural background has played a meaningful role in shaping the way I understand people, identity, and community. Navigating multiple cultural influences has given me a deep appreciation for diversity, as well as a strong commitment to creating a space that is inclusive, culturally sensitive, and respectful of each person’s lived experiences.

I have a particular passion for working with women, children, and BIPOC, and I am dedicated to supporting individuals as they navigate challenges, build resilience, and connect with their strengths. Healing happens through connection, and I strive to bring warmth, empathy, and authenticity into each session.

My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that the client–therapist relationship is central to healing. I want to create a warm, authentic, and collaborative space where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered. I lean on humanistic principles that honour each person’s inherent worth, emotion-focused therapy to help clients explore and understand their emotional experiences, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to support meaningful change through practical strategies and insight.

I look forward to connecting with you and being part of your journey!
