Karen Veinot

Counselling Therapist Intern

If you are experiencing problems, pain or discomfort, or if you just need someone to talk to, I am here to provide a space that is free from judgement, prioritizing your safety and dignity. As a counselling student intern, my goal is to encourage and support you on your path to healing in a way that suits your own unique needs. The fact you are here, reaching out for help, is proof that you are committed to improving your life, and that is worth celebrating.

Beginning the therapy process takes courage, and it is normal to feel nervous about how things will unfold. I will endeavor to make the process as comfortable and smooth as possible for you. At your own pace, we will work together to set achievable goals that will improve your life in tangible ways through strategies that are evidence-based and grounded in research.

My decades of experience in the education field have provided me with a strong foundation of inclusivity and an understanding of how early childhood experiences lay the framework for future mental health. I am passionate about helping others to learn about their own emotional and relational patterns as well as how to improve their coping skills. I have a particular interest in supporting parents through the challenges of raising children and teenagers through the challenges of relating to adults. I also hope to support those experiencing major life transitions, depression, anxiety, loneliness and grief.

I have a Bachelor of Arts from Dalhousie University, a Bachelor of Education from MSVU, and am currently on the path to completing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with Yorkville University. I am an elementary school teacher, and in the past, I have owned and operated a daycare. When I’m not working or studying, you can find me walking my dogs, hanging out with my husband and two teenagers, taking and editing photos, making art of various kinds, or paddle boarding on the lake at my parents’ home on the south shore of Nova Scotia.
