Hi, I’m Jane Miller (she/her). I’m a queer, cis woman from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, now living in Halifax with my partner and our pets. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Saint Francis Xavier University and have worked in the field of mental health for almost a decade. This has led me to pursuing a Master's in Counselling Therapy from Yorkville University.
My passion for mental health began during my undergraduate studies, and I’ve since worked with diverse populations, including youth in crisis, women and genderqueer individuals in supportive housing, adults who use substances, asylum seekers, and students in teaching and supportive roles. I’m particularly interested in working with teens and adults, especially from the LGBTQIA+ community. I’m drawn to emotionally focused therapy, narrative therapy, and have a strong interest in family-based therapy and parts work.
My personal experiences also shape my approach to care. As the primary caregiver for my mother during her battle with cancer, I gained a profound understanding of grief and end-of-life experiences.
My approach to therapy is warm, gentle, and client-centered. I focus on deep listening and validation, ensuring my clients feel heard and understood. I work from a trauma-informed perspective, valuing the therapeutic relationship as the foundation for healing. I also emphasize cultural humility, acknowledging the importance of intersectionality and diversity. Above all, I believe that clients are the experts of their own lives, and my role is to walk with them on their healing journey.
