Hi! My name is Yingnan (Brian) Gao (he/him), and I’m a Counselling Therapist Intern at Couch of Hope. I am currently completing my practicum as part of the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) program at Yorkville University.
As a cis gay man and first-generation immigrant, my passion for mental health is deeply rooted in my own lived experience. Having faced mental health challenges myself, I understand how isolating and overwhelming it can be—and I want to support others who find themselves in similar shoes. I believe that everyone deserves a space where they can feel heard, seen, and valued for who they truly are.
My therapeutic approach is grounded in a person-centered and humanistic perspective, while also integrating elements from Gestalt and the biopsychosocial model. I tailor my work to the unique needs of each client, offering warmth, empathy, and collaboration. I have a particular interest in supporting individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, social anxiety, and cultural integration issues. I’m especially passionate about working with newcomers, fellow members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those navigating complex family dynamics.
Reaching out for support is a courageous first step. I’m honoured to be part of your healing journey and look forward to walking alongside you.
