Sarah Neilson

Counselling Therapist Intern

Hi, I’m Sarah (she/her). I’m originally from Quispamsis, New Brunswick, and in 2020 I relocated to British Columbia to complete my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Victoria. Living in the Pacific Northwest for several years offered meaningful opportunities for both personal reflection and academic growth. I am now grateful and excited to return to the Maritimes to complete my practicum placement, bringing the knowledge, perspective, and experience I gained back to the region that continues to feel like home.

My approach to therapy is grounded in a client-centred framework that values compassion, empathy, and respect. I believe that each client is the expert in their own life and experiences, and my role is to provide a supportive, collaborative space where individuals feel heard, understood, and empowered. I strive to meet clients where they are, honouring their unique strengths, values, and worldviews. In my work, I also incorporate solution-focused therapy techniques to help identify existing resources, build on what is already working, and support meaningful, achievable change that aligns with each client’s goals.

Upon completion of my practicum, I hope to specialize in working with families and couples. I am particularly passionate about relational dynamics and how individual histories, perspectives, and patterns of communication shape relationships. I value creating space for all voices to be acknowledged and understood, with the goal of fostering connection, healing, and growth within relationships.

I am committed to creating a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental therapeutic environment, and I view therapy as a partnership built on trust and collaboration. I look forward to walking alongside you in your healing journey.
